2012 CPE Nationals East Coast – Altamont Fairgrounds, Altamont NY

Hosted by NY Host Clubs:

We wish you a great time and hope you create wonderful, lasting memories at the 2012 CPE Nationals East Coast in Altamont, NY!  This letter gives some details about the special things the host clubs are doing to do to help you have the best time you possibly can this June.

This is a big event!  Adding the sixth ring made it even bigger.  Many of you have expressed interest in helping out either before or after nationals, in setup or takedown of the rings and surrounding areas.  Thank you in advance, we would love to have your help!  If you are interested and available to help on Thursday setting up or Sunday afternoon taking down, please contact Bob Domfort – agilitydog@nycap.rr.com – we are ever grateful to the agility community which makes events like this possible.

Speaking of volunteers! – Those of you that signed up to volunteer to help out during nationals will be contacted by Lisa Norris – jumpinbeandogs@hotmail.com ; thank you for doing your part, each person just doing one job a day makes a huge difference.  If you didn’t sign up to work but would like to, Lisa would be happy to add you to the worker schedule, just send her an email.
All volunteers should check in at the host club table during the check in period on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning to get their worker raffle tickets.  We have been working hard to set up an awesome worker raffle, so be sure not to miss out on your chance to win!  We will draw the winners on Sunday at 2pm.
Anyone wishing to donate an item, worth at least $40 (perhaps a state themed basket from your home state), is welcome!  Please email Julie Mihalcik – mihalcik@nycap.rr.com – if you would like to participate.  Each item donated will receive 10 raffle tickets as our thanks (max one per person/organization); make sure you let Julie know you’ll be bringing something, and touch base with her when you bring your donated item.
There will be worker snacks and drinks available in the hospitality building all weekend.
When you go into the ring to run your dog, please remember to give your dog’s name to the scribe – it’s not like a local trial where scribes know the names of most of the dogs.  We want to make sure everyone’s score is recorded on the correct scribe sheet!

Also during check-in, be sure to get the specially prepared New York State goodie bag; each competitor gets one.  And, during the nationals, check out the front corner of the hospitality building, we will be providing free NYS and local goodies for people and dogs all weekend.

If you signed up for the Saturday night banquet, your ticket(s) will be waiting for you at check-in at the host club table.  If you haven’t yet bought a ticket for dinner, don’t miss out, we’re planning good food and lots of entertainment!  Contact Suzanne Norton – snorto61@yahoo.com – by no later than June 1st, to make sure you can get in on the fun and festivities.

Be aware that Altamont has a diligent police force that will have a presence on the roads leading into the fairgrounds, so make sure you pay attention to the speed limits in town.  Yes, it’s a 30 mph zone in the village of Altamont.

If you have a handicapped parking permit (temporary or permanent) and would like to reserve a parking spot in the special permit parking lot (closest parking area to the rings), please email Trisha Stall – Trisha@agiledogs.net – before Monday, June 4th so that we can issue you parking pass via email.

For those of you renting cubbies – we’re having a special cubby decorating contest!  More details will be sent to those of you renting cubbies with your registration confirmation email.

Depending on whether you’re coming in with your RV, renting a cubby or open crating area, parking in the special permit area, or tent camping in the day use area, there are different gates that are best for you to use.  We will post complete directions to each gate and who should use each gate for easiest access on the nationals website by June 1st.

Are you potentially going to get a C-ATCh or C-ATE at nationals?  We will be providing a signature mat frame that you can have all your friends sign and then put your favorite picture in, as a special momento of your big accomplishment.  Please email Bob Domfort – agilitydog@nycap.rr.com – by May 31st if you are in the running for one of these titles so that we can make sure we have enough frames available for everyone.

Marge Stall (Trisha’s mother) has designed and created a wonderful quilt that we will be raffling off, 100% of proceeds will go to the local pet rescue organization, Steve Caporrizzo’s Pet Connection, which has been helping local dogs and cats find forever homes since 1990.  We are hoping to get Steve, who is also the chief meteorologist for Channel 10 news, to come out for a guest appearance one day as well.  We will be selling tickets 1 for $1, 6 for $5, 15 for $10, or 35 for $20 from Friday through Sunday noon, and will hold the drawing at 12:30 or thereabouts on Sunday.  The quilt will be on display all weekend long in the front of the hospitality building.  In case you are interested, here is a link to information about Steve and Pet Connection: http://www.news10.com/Global/story.asp?S=7810034

Make sure you dispose of your trash in one of the bins that will be located all around the fairgrounds.  In addition, please “go green” and place your recyclables in the specially marked containers.  Thank you!

Safe travels, and see you in June!
